How to Verify a Pakistan Garment Supplier Before You Send Money

The direct answer: a supplier is verified when three independent things agree — a registration document that matches the company name you are paying, factory evidence you did not ask for in advance, and a third party who answers independently rather than the contact the supplier gave you. One of those three is not verification. Most supplier fraud is caught at the second or third step, never at the first.

Part of the buyer journey: Find & Verify a Supplier Before Money Moves — stage 2 of 8, with the other guides for this stage.

Match the name on the paperwork to the name on the payment instruction

Ask for the exact registered company name, the registration number, and the registered address. Then check that the bank account name is identical to that registered name, letter for letter. A mismatch is not always fraud — small exporters often use a personal or group account — but it must be explained, and the explanation must come from the company, not from the individual selling to you.

An account name that cannot be reconciled with the registration is the single most common early signal in garment sourcing. Ask before you agree terms, not after you have confirmed stock.

Ask for evidence you did not request

Request something specific: a video walk through the cutting floor, the sewing floor, the finishing table, or the packed warehouse. A genuine manufacturer answers. A trader without a factory either declines, redirects you to a partner factory, or sends footage that turns out to be a stock image.

Watch for the tells. A tour that never leaves the office, footage shot in a showroom, or a factory whose machines do not match the product category. Cross-check by asking a question about the equipment only someone inside would know, and see whether the answer holds.

Get a third party to confirm independently

Ask for a trade reference or a customer contact who will answer your questions directly, not through the supplier. An independent confirmation that the supplier has shipped to your country before, and that the goods arrived as described, is worth more than any certificate.

If the supplier refuses a reference, treat that as information rather than an obstacle. Reference refusal and reference failure are not the same thing, and only one of them is decisive.

Structure payment so verification failures cost you nothing

Whatever the verification result, never send the full amount up front. A deposit against inspection or against a shipping document keeps the majority of the value in play until the goods exist and are loaded. Payment milestones are not distrust; they are the standard way the legitimate exporters you want are used to working.

Buyer questions, answered

Is a WhatsApp-only supplier safe to buy from?

Many legitimate small exporters work mainly on WhatsApp, so the channel itself proves nothing either way. What matters is whether the company name on the payment instruction matches the registration, whether they will give factory evidence, and whether the balance is tied to inspection or shipping. A supplier who refuses all three is not one to buy from, regardless of how the communication arrived.

Why do suppliers ask for a deposit before showing anything?

Because showing stock properly costs them time and some suppliers are wary of buyers who never intend to purchase. This is normal in the market. The answer is not to refuse deposits, but to keep the balance tied to something verifiable, and to confirm the company identity before the first payment leaves.

What if the bank account name differs from the company name?

Do not stop there, and do not accept it silently. Ask for an explanation, and ask whether the account belongs to a group company, an agent, or an individual proprietor structure. Get the explanation in writing on the same email thread. If you cannot reconcile the two names, that is the point to walk away, not to proceed more carefully.
